I almost died yesterday!!!!

I was at chick-fil-a with my parents and we had just sat down and I ate my first bite of chicken and suddenly it just wouldn't go down. I didn't panic at first and I just drank of few sips of water to try to make it go down...well it didn't work. My mom said I started making this really weird sound in my mouth and my eyes got huge! And it looked like I was in my own world because I wouldn't make eye contact with anyone! Then, I started tapping my dad's shoulder and he turned to me and grabbed me out of the booth that we were sitting at. He then started to perform the heimlich maneuver on me. He said he had to do three thrusts in order to get the piece of chicken out. The first two were very light and didn't do much. But then he went harder on the third one and out popped the chicken!

I really don't remember anything that happened during it because I was just so scared! I just remember thinking "omg what am I going to do? I can't breathe!" Then my dad started doing the heimlich maneuver on me and I just kept thinking "what if this doesn't work?"

But luckily it did. I am still very shaken up by that very scary incident. Last night I kept having flashbacks of it in my dreams and I kept waking up crying. And if that wasn't already enough, my dad pushed a little too hard on the third thrust and he, what we think, broke one of my ribs. We're aren't positive yet, but it hurts really bad everytime I breathe or make the slightest movement.

I really thank God for why I am still here. Luckily, my dad didn't panic and knew what he was doing. My mom, however, had no clue how to do it properly and if I was just with her, I really don't know what would have happened. Someone in the restaraunt probably would have known how to do it, but I am very lucky for my dad!

I'm so glad you are ok! I hope that rib isn't broken, are you planing on going to the doctor about it?

I know he has to feel rotten about hurting you, but it sure beats the alternative. ***whew***

Thanks! And yeah, I think we are going to go to the doctor for it. I hope it heals soon though!

WOW! That is SO scary! So fortunate your dad knew how to do the Heinlich maneuver!

Sounds like if he didn't push down really hard the chicken wouldn't have come dislodged though.

Thank God your dad knew what to do and that you're OK.

Definitely get the rib checked out to make sure it's not broken.

When a piece of food is stuck in the airway, the person can't talk or breathe. A very scary situation.
