Please help! I don't know what to do!
Hey guys!
Okay, I'm having some problems. Well, as some of you might know, I'm really into singing! I want to be a country singer when I grow up, and I'm working really hard to achieve that dream! Well, my Dad totally disagrees with that and always tells me "I'm not good enough" and "I should just give up because I'm never going to make it." I know that the chances of me becoming a singer are very SLIM!! I'm fully aware of that, but I still want to try!
This last month, Kellie performed at the Texas Stampede! Well, I got invited to perform there and it was not only on the same day as Kellie, but I was also going to sing a duet with her (Stand By Your Man)!!! I was MORE than thrilled! When the people called back to give me more of the info, my Dad told them I wouldn't be performing!!!!!!!
I'm really sad guys! I was so close to singing with my idol and my Dad just took it away because "he's tired of me going for this stupid dream." He didn't even give me a chance!!!
Please tell me what to do and how to handle this! I'm really depressed and I feel as if maybe I'm going for something too impossible!! Maybe I should just give up!!
Please help me!

Crissy,Never give up on your dreams to perform,I believe that a person's voice is used whether it's for singing or not,and boy do you have such an amazing voice for such a young lady you are.Keep on singing,it's your greatest passion as i can tell.Don't let your dad stand in the way of your happiness.I too went through this with my dad so so very long ago.Don't make the mistakes I made. You'll regret it someday. Always keep singing, show your family this is what you really want out of life and make your mark on the world.Always dream big and go on auditions and practice your craft.
Keep me posted, and I love, love your versions of "I Wonder" and "Let Er' Rip"

Hey Crissy,
Whatever you do, please don't give up. Granted, I don't know what your family situation is and, frankly, that's none of my business. But, I feel like I need to respond to you about this problem because it bothers me.
My daughter, Magan, and I have done many shows. Magan is a singer and has gotten many rave reviews on her performances. She graduated from Towson University (Md.) with a degree in Theater Arts. I was hoping that she would pursue a career in Show Business, but she elected not to do it. I was disappointed. I would have liked for her to at lease try. She had heard too many horror stories from her friends who tried NYC and came home totally broke and discouraged.
Ok, so back to you. I understand that you need to respect your Dad's feelings (altho I don't agree with him). Perhaps he has had a bad experience in Show Business (?). Maybe he's afraid of you getting into bad company (?). I'm totally guessing, of course. Obviously, I don't know your Dad.
It would be a real shame if you were hang-up your dream. AI sounds like a good idea. Will your Dad support you? I hope so. Honestly, at age 15, you may be a bit young to handle the pressure. Maybe not, tho, if you've already had stage experience. Tell us more of what shows you have done.
PLEASE DON'T GIVE UP!!!!

^Thanks guys!
Well, I live in McKinney and they don't really have that many opportunities to sing or perform. I have been in choir since the 2nd grade, and in Middle school and High school I was/am in varsity. Last year as a Freshmen I was in my school's Battle of the Bands. It's generally for rock, but I decided that wasn't fair so I auditioned anyways as a country singer! I was the only girl and only country singer! I ended up getting 2nd place! I was in McKinney Has Talent (kinda like American Idol) and I got 1st place out of 30 people. They had 2 rounds and in the 2nd round people got to vote! I've also been in countless school talent shows!
I love singing, but I wish my Dad supported me more!

Crissy, I'm awefully sorry that you were denied of singing along side your idol. Do you go to church? If you do, then for now, submit your prayer to a prayer group so that with time, God will open your dad's heart to listen. If you don't go to church, you will be prayed for anyways.
That said however, bear in mind that your dad only wants the best for you because he loves you. God bless and let us know how you are doing and keep us updated

Keep going for it and everything will fall into place! Once you turn 18, try out for AI cause your dad can't tell you what to do.

Crissy, DON'T give up on your dreams. I'm not sure why you weren't allowed to sing with Kellie. That was an opportunity of a lifetime, and it shouldn't have been taken away from you without a good reason. You have a lot going for you, and keep singing. Maybe your dad will realize how important your singing is to you and support you. If not, you will be 18 in a couple years and can follow your dreams. Good luck, and God Bless You!!!!!!

Go for it. It's your life not his. I was rolling my eyes at first but after I read the part where you got invited to sing with her means that other people saw that potential. And to sing with Kellie is more than enough validation you need. We all know there are those who are way ahead of themselves. But clearly you got something going on. Maybe post a utube of you singing and let people see. Post many. Get exposure.
Don't let people tell you what you can and can't do. It's unfortunate that family sometimes can't see that. It is not uncommon. Just believe in yourself and follow that dream.
Good luck! Looking forward to your utube video.

McKinney Texas right up the road from me here in Waxahachie...Have you asked your Dad to set down and discuss your desire to follow your dream.
I mean really discuss it with no hollering and getting up leaving until the discussion is over...A lot of people said Elvis's voice was not good enough
at first to make it...At 15 you are still pretty young and will grow not
only in body but in voice...Can you write a song??...Keep on that path to
follow your dream but try and have that discussion with your Father....
