I need to vent!
I need to vent! Remember (some of you from CarrieFans will) how I got a new job? Well, this new job isn't working out for me. My hours have gotten cut over the last 2 or 3 weeks, and I have no money coming in. About a month and a half ago, my boss from my other job (I work or worked at an assisted living home) called me to say she wanted me to come back, only to do something else. So she had scheduled a day for me to work, but then called me off and has since never called me back. I called her last week to ask what was going on with my job, and I never heard back from her. So I called her up today and left another message, asking if she was going to be letting me go or if I was going to be coming back. Understand, I haven't worked at the assisted living place in 3 months, and it was only 1 day I got to work because 1 of my co workers didn't show up for a mandatory meeting, so I got to take their place. Before that, it was another 2 or 3 months since I'd worked there. And earlier this year, I was laid off without pay for 2 or 3 months. I can't continue on like this, but until I get a steady, reliable part time job, I'm stuck at the assisted living home. As for the Disney Store (new job), well, that's going to end soon, since it was seasonal and Christmas is almost here. I'm getting really mad at my boss for not calling me back and setting me straight on what's going on. What's worse, she kinda wanted me to quit my other job to go back to her! Thanks goodness I didn't do that, or, even though I'm basically not working right now, I'd have no job! What does everyone think? I know I'll need to look for another job. Will my boss ever tell me what's going on, or will I have to find out through my job counselor, who helped me get the job in the 1st place?

Heidi, sweets, just do what you can right now, from what i understand you have two jobs, but one of them has pretty much treated you with such disrespect which is so crappy.
I've been through this problem,as well as my best friend, and she works in a nursing home as well, she was cut back due to budget cuts,so they say,but really we believe her boss wants to get rid of her.
What you want to do with your assisted living job is give them the satisfaction of the doubt,"what goes around comes around",and i'm quoting that.Another helpful tip is confront your job counselor and let her know what's going on.Just keep doing what your doing for now,and once your seasonal job ends at the Disney store, prove them to keep you there on a regular basis, hard work goes a long way.I know first hand.I base myself on a work ethic. It's so difficult to find a job now a days.
Be persistant and assertive in the work place, but also just be yourself and lay low when you can.
If you need to talk to me about any work situation just pm me Heidi,i'm here for you.

Thanks! I actually did talk to my job counselor today to tell her what was going on, and to see if she had another job for me. I have a 1 pm orientation appointment Monday because it's been over a year since I last used the program through my job counselor. Once I complete that orientation, we'll go from there. But if my boss doesn't call me this weekend, I'm calling my job counselor back and asking her to get the scoop for me. I only waited this long to call my boss because I did give her the benefit of doubt. And I can't prove to the Disney Store to keep me on after the holidays (I wish I could, I love it there) because they've cut my hours and I'm not working anytime this week or next week.

Your welcome Heidi,so glad you did give your benefit of the doubt, don't ever give up okay?
Do you know for sure that you'll be let go from the Disney Store once the holidays end?,sounds like you really love it there, tell them that,do what you can to keep it,and keep working hard, but also remember that you don't have to please everyone either, never compromise yourself. Never give up.I emphasis that.

Wow...life must suck quite a bit. I advise to just slow it down and take some time to think this through...maybe you'll find a solution for all of this. I hope you do!

Heidi, have you tried Monster.com?
I don't have any personal experience with it, but 2 folks who I know made out pretty good with it.

Well, when I got hired, my boss told me that the job was only seasonal and that chances were they weren't going to keep me on after the holidays. I do really like it, it's a lot better than my other job. But I won't be working there anytime soon, business is bad and they cut my hours.

I actually do look for jobs through SnagAJob.com Jobs - The Number 1 Source for Hourly Jobs , and have applied for several jobs through there. I have used Monster.com in the past though and found nothing I was qualified for.

Your boss could always change it though.
You could possibly re-submit a new application once the holidays are over with.Do all you can to keep your job with the Disney store. When you love a job like this one,you can make sacrifices to keep it.
I'll be with the Big Lots company 6 years in March and i just love it.
