For me, it's a setback and a dissappointment, but I am not the one getting paid big $$$$ to make these kind of decisions, hahaha. What I really want to know is how are they coming with these decisions? What kind of research do they do and how extensive is it? How large are their focus groups and what type of people do they generally include? They have a finite budget and schedule to come up with these decisions so I am sure they cut corners and compromised on certain aspects of the plan.
The song unnecessarily limits the demographic, but it's obvious to me it's not their top priority and they have some other plans in mind. They probably don't even care if the song will be top 10. That's not in their immediate objective I don't think. If it does, it's just icing on the cake. All I know is that their main objective is to reach Platinum by end of this year. I don't know about BNA, but where I come from, you make that kind of statement you better stick
to it or else you're held accountable for it. I don't think they're that stupid to make that kind of statement and take an unnecassery risk of looking stupid. It has to be a sure thing. To me, it means it's almost a gaurantee that her sales will hit Platinum by year end and management will/should do whatever it takes to get her there. Of course if it does not happen and they fumble it, it gives us some insight on the quality of her management. Personally I think it will happen and these are the areas that management is probably going to focus and depend on to get her sales there:
* Initial sale surge
* TV promos
* Christmas bump
From past experiences, these numbers are very predictable and have done quite well in sales for her. I will also expect very agressive marketing from now till then as well. Definately more so than in the past

It's going to be a lot of fun to watch how it will all materializes
