I'm really on the verge of erupting I'm so mad. This is not a low key problem. If it was just once or twice it would be fine, but I've been to so many stores and they've had few to none copies.. and this has been going on for months! They don't seem to be paying much attention at all to the suffering sales. Meanwhile, Taylor Swift's lead over Kellie continues to increase and it's annoying to me because I know Kellie could be selling much more if only she only was visible. Low Price + High availability = High Sales. Overpriced + Low availability = next to nothing slaes. So I'd say for the situation she's in, Kellie's sales still aren't bad. If only people could find it.
Even though we don't have all the facts I tend to think about the big picture and all involved like you do....
You raise a lot of good questions. And, thanks for posting the links to those articles. I'll make my way through them when I get back from vacation. (I'm relaxing on the beach in Destin.)
It's another interviiew with Danny Goldberg. One interesting part is when he talks about how there's little long-term thinking. People in big companies are pressured to meet their quarterly numbers and things don't happen quarterly in the careeer of an artist. Unfortunately, that's the way it can be in many businesses. I see it in my line of work too. I write weekly updates on projects where things can take months to happen.
There's a part where he comments on revenues from touring and merchandise sales, etc. It seems it's hard to get these things balanced because they are all run by different companies.

Time will tell who is smart and who isn't. I'm looking forward to talking to some recording artist friends about this stuff. They've got a lot of experience, but I haven't seen some of them in a while. They have successful careers, but I'm sure that my most would be doing cartwheels and handsprings if they ever sold 500,000 CDs like Kellie did. It's an amazing accomplishment.
I went to my local Walmart again yesterday and they had no copies of STG. I'm getting frantic, I need them for this weekend's concert. I will check out Best Buy later today.

STG was still on Price Cut when I went to Target today, they only had one copy left and another one in the country section, I moved them both under the "Price Cut" sign.
We have all heard this story so many times......and many fans have tried to come up with ways of correcting it when the responsibility is NOT OURS but JUST WHOSE RESPONSIBILITY IS IT? Have heard Galante, Vause, her management company......and still do not know who to "fuss at"....where it will make a difference......Just really is baffling to me...seems like anyone involved with Kellie's career would want her to make money......then they make money.....Have learned from experience you SELL WHAT YOU SHOW.....just having Kellie's CD on the shelves would increase sells......People buy SIX TIMES what they see vs. what they hear.......SIX TIMES....so am at a loss.......when you look at TS and then Kellie, it absolutely "blows my mind" that TS is doing so much better....and now Bucky....it seems all these folks are just getting managed better.....that's it....but I don't know if that means Galante, or Vause, or her managers or just who.....We hear how 14 and 15 is not bad and that is very true......but when folks cannot even find a cd in the store.....this is pathetic, discouraging, and just plain wrong.....Kellie has worked much too hard for the "powers that be" to let her down....Shame of Them.....Whoever They Are....

It's not good when Walmart stores near concerts quickly run out. Since more people buy CDs from Walmart I will be surprised if Best Buy doesn't have it. It's really simple. Kellie's album is a best seller. Brad's tour is a best seller. Keep Kellie's CD well stocked, well displayed, and priced the same as the other 3 artists she's on tour with ($9.72) at Walmart so when concert goers shop for CDs there more will buy hers. Tour cities should be a priority.

Great points. I agree that most shoppers just don't buy what they don't see in stores and if an item is not on the shelf and priced right at the time they want it then that sale is probably lost. Kellie has proven time and time again that with good promotion her CD sales increase by thousands that week. TV is great although it increases sales only for a few days to 1 week or so. I don't think anything beats airplay and if a single were promoted to top 5 or #1 then weekly sales increases should stay consistent like they have for TS and others.
I haven't seen much or enough consistency in any aspect of Kellie's promotion except for touring. TV and touring have been great however I believe more should be done with other types of promo. IMO she needs more or better promo in 3 important areas: airplay, in-store (ads, free bonuses, lots of inventory, highly visible displays, lower prices), and internet. Inventory levels should at least match demand, and based on many reports it seems that they haven't for some time now. Can you imagine the big sales losses if inventory is still too low come the Christmas shopping season (Oct. through Jan.) when far more CDs are purchased? Hmm I wonder if that's when Joe plans to ship platinum, by Oct./early Nov.? I sure hope so.
No doubt Kellie is doing her best (beyond awesome) and I'd just like to see her efforts matched by those responsible for other aspects. I wonder how much closer STG would be to selling 1,000,000 copies at retail by now if none of the issues we've seen occured?
I wish we had open communication between fans and the record company like Bucky's label and others have. Other labels have shown much more interest and even asked fans to report inventory issues and took care of it. Wes is the publicist for all artists on the BNA label and I guess he deals with media etc. I believe the record label (either BNA or parent company Sony BMG) handles store etc. promo. The only time I've seen any concern get taken care of is when letters and calls went to Joe at Sony BMG. For example after I posted about myspace needing attention and TS won the CMT award, fans called and wrote letters and it worked well.
