Was Daughtry Lucky He Lost On Idol?
What do you think? He's gone triple platinum...but would have have done even better if he won first place at American Idol?

Oh yes, also if you vote on this poll, say why you think what you do.

I voted "He would have done a little worse." I think he was better off not winning because it might have allowed him more creative freedom. Also when he got booted off early it made fans mad enough to run out and buy CDs to prove he is the real winner and outsell Kat and Taylor. On the other hand, I think Kellie would have sold more if she won Idol and made the same album, because she would have received more exposure and promotion. So why else did Daughtry sell more than Kellie? Because he was TPTB (Simon, Clive, etc) favorite from season 5, he got more promotion, and he gets airplay in formats that are much larger than country plus crossover (top 40, alt/rock, pop, AC, Christian) - many millions more listeners hear his songs.

I agree with ChrisKellieFan. I also voted "a little worse."
I think the powers that be decided even before Chris got voted off that he was their man.
The reaction from Chris' fans set up a sympathetic chain reaction.
I remember people that had only seen Idol a few times saying how mad they were that he got voted off.
At the concert I attended, people were cheering louder for him than anyone, even though it was it was clearly NOT a rocker crowd.
I think the time was right also for another rocker to come along and fill a void. Maybe it's just me, but I can't remember a new rock singer or group in the last 15 years that measures up to the best bands of the '70s, '80s or early '90s.
Go ahead, call me names and shoot me, but it's like someone pulled the plug on rock after Kurt Cobain died.
The quality of Chris' CD, even if most of the songs have a similar sound, is simply better than just about anything from other rock groups I have heard lately.

I wonder who voted he would do much better and what their thinking was on that? Hmmm. Wish people would say why they vote the way they do! Come on people, no one will criticize you for stating your opinion on this!

I think he would have done a little worse. If he won, I don't think he could've made the album that he did now. He has a lot more creative control of his career and music. I look at all the idols now and I think it's better if you just don't win Idol (just be in the top 10 and go on tour). unless you're Kelly or Carrie since it's worked out for them. I'm not sure about how Jordin's going to do. We'll see when her album comes out.

about the same. If you fan base really, really likes you, then they'll give their support no matter what. Well, almost. I remember an article where McPhee said she voted for Studdard millions of times, but when his CD came out, she didn't buy it. The same goes for Guarini. But I think Chris is in a different league from the others.

By finishing 4th he was able escape the pressure of being compared to what other winners have done in the past. Carrie the winner from Season 5 has sold over 6 million in the US and I don't think Chris will ever past that. Some people would have looked at that and said that he was a failure because he didn't sell as many. Finishing 4th Chris in many people eyes over achieved even though his sales I believe would have been the same.

I voted he would have done a little worse.
He wasn't Idol's "puppet", although Jordin and Carrie haven't been like that. Chris got creative control, and got his own band, unlike most of the winners. Chris would have, probably been miserable as he could truly, truly be able to do anything he wants. Just my opinion. Kellie can do whatever she wants, so can Carrie and Kelly Clarkson now.

I voted "probably about the same" for no particular reason other than it is just simply how I feel. I think the same people who have purchased his album would be the same ones buying it if he had won.

I votes "Probably about the same." He had one of the biggest fans on the show and it only grew every week. I think the week Chris left, his fans just didn't vote as much because they thought he had it in the bag.
