Since this season was a step backward, I'm thinking there's probably a good chance next season will be a step forward. Yes indeed, it took a lot of deep thinking to come up with that gem.  |

I think after this season, they will try harder to avoid making some of the mistakes they made this year, so I look for a rebound next year.
I would look for them to delve deeper into people's past lives when they get to the Hollywood rounds and try to shake the skeletons before they are in the Top 24.
They need to figure out how Sanjaya slipped through the cracks. His audition really wasn't bad, but why didn't they know he couldn't possibly keep up vocally with the others?
Maybe it would help if they made fewer stupid, arbitrary cuts like when they booted Baylie Brown for forgetting her lines. Or cutting whole groups based on the nearly useless group rounds results.
And I hope they get someone country in the Top 24. Baylie Brown would be great, but anyone, please. They have four legit country stars, only one or two stars in any other niche. Hello?
Another real rocker couldn't hurt. Constantine, Bo and Chris D. were all pretty popular on the show. Con didn't get a deal, and Bo didn't make a real rock CD. Chris did and the rest is history.
Finally, I hope they tell us more about the contestants' personalities and stories than they did this year. I think that hurt the show as much as anything. It seemed like they told very little about these people until near the end of the show. Give us reasons to bond with the contestants.
