Well I use Adobe Photoshop CS2 right now, and I love it, but it's very, very expensive (about $700 I think), and kind of complicated for a beginner. I recommend you either get Adobe Photoshop Elements (which goes for around $100 or a little less), which is a lot better for beginners, or even better, Paint Shop Pro. It's just like Photoshop, but a lot cheaper (I believe the newest one sells for around $80 but I'm not sure), and a lot easier to use, as well as computer friendly (won't take up a lot of the computer's memory). You can download free trials at these websites:
Adobe (go to "downloads", and select "trial downloads)
Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo X2 - Try It - Corel Corporation (this is a direct link to the free trial for the newest version of paint shop pro)
click-now.net :: Adobe Photoshop CS2 Tryout : FREE Download Adobe Photoshop CS2 - The professional standard in desktop digital imaging (direct link for downloading a free trial of Photoshop CS2)
click-now.net :: FREE Downloads : Adobe Photoshop Elements (download for a free trial of Photoshop Elements)
Hope this helps you out! I always encourage using the free trials before buying a program, especially an expensive one such as Photoshop. If you need any help, feel free to let me know!

For those of y'all who like to dabble with photos, but aren't serious enough about it to buy PhotoShop, here's an option.
GIMP is a free program that's pretty simple to use. GIMP - for Windows
I hadn't been a Kelliebean for very long before I was feeling envious of all the neato work that you guys were doing with photos and making siggies. I wanted to learn how to do it, but didn't want to spend the bucks for PhotoShop. I think it was Lindsay who put me on to GIMP. It works great; at least for my needs. I made my siggy with it.
There's also a very cool tutorial. It's free, too.
