Daughtry poised for big debut sales and Prison Break commercial tune

There is good news for Chris Daughtry's newly-released debut album DAUGHTRY. The online chart news website Hits Daily Double predicts that sales-wise it will, "bow...in the 270k range. That would make it the highest Idol non-winner first-week sales total since Clay Aiken."

Preliminary numbers should be available by next Wednesday. Those Hits Daily Double numbers are up from an initial prediction that had DAUGHTRY coming in around the 200K mark. While first week numbers will certainly be good, it remains to be seen if DAUGHTRY has staying power.

Chris and his band made a few TV appearances this week to promote the album. Here's a performance of "Home" from the Good Morning America Fall Concert Series: video.

I'm hearing that the single, "It's Not Over" will be released to radio in two weeks? I'm not sure I understand the strategy of releasing the single after the CD is released. Traditionally, the single is released first to generate interest in the album...

In the meantime, "It's Not Over" is the theme music for the ad promoting the Fall finale of FOX's show Prison Break. The ad will run all weekend until the show airs this coming Monday. That's a nice bit of promotion for the single.

I downloaded the record from iTunes a few days ago. Granted, this particular flavor of pop-rock is not normally my cup of tea--while I find some the tunes generic, there are some I really like. "Home" has a pretty melody and lyrics that resonate without being trite. I'm a total sucker for the chiming guitars and candy-coated pop hook of "Feels Like Tonight". "Breakdown", "All These Lives", and "Sorry" are tunes I wouldn't turn off my car radio.

Speaking of which, I'll be surprised if these tunes don't get radio play. I think the rock stations will turn up their nose at the record. As if the stuff commercial rock radio plays is any "cooler." It's not, if you ask me, but it's really about seeming hip rather than actually being hip, ya know? Hot AC is where I imagine these tunes landing--right alongside bands like Nickleback and Hinder.

If DAUGHTRY takes off on radio, I think Chris and his band stand a decent chance of growing their fanbase beyond the Idol faithful.

Yeah. I'm very impressed with their CD. If you don't like that kind of music, I wouldn't recommend taking a listen. It's not "The Real Thing" It's pretty true rock. Overall I'm impressed, i was only dissapointed with a few tracks. I'd give it 4/5 stars. It's also selling very well & I think he'll be very very successful.

I was an "on-and-off" fan of Chris' during the show and I started liking him again when I saw him on tour. I really love his debut CD and I finally go it in the mail today. I'm listening to it right now for like the 4th time! lol

Good for him, I love his CD.. or at least the clips I've heard. I haven't really listened to his whole album yet cause I can't stop listening to What About Now and Over You. Those songs own.
