The Golden Compass
Everyone should go check out this movie! It's the biggest movie of the year and it's definitely set to be incredible.
The Golden Compass is an adaptation of the first of a trilogy of books written by Philip Pullman from the series "His Dark Materials".
There's been a lot of controversy involving the release because the author is an atheist and some catholic groups are planning a boycott, because the author has also described his books to be about "Killing God".
However, I don't think that's the case. Anyone that has read the books can agree with me that it's simply fiction.
The Golden Compass stars Nicole Kidman, Daniel Craig and Eva Green, and I've gotta say, it looks stunning.

I have to disagree, the fact that the books main point is "killing God" can not be "simply fiction", for me that crosses the line, IMO

Sounds like a offshoot of Never Ending Story/Golden Child.
If & when it comes to tv, I might watch it, maybe.

It is to be out as a movie soon from what I understand, and I WILL NOT GO SEE IT. I will NOT contribute in any way to it. In the end the kids "kill God" so that they can do whatever they want to. We discussed it briefly in church today. Some say it's fiction, but that's also what thy said and say about Harry Potter stuff. No it is full of evil and satan, with witchcraft and real spells. DON't be Deceived!!!!

I actually had no idea what the main focal point was of the film until now. With being a spiritual believer in God and the Lord, many religious groups have a field day with such controversay over films that are made from a ficitional stand point. As being said I don't condon their actions, however, when films cross the line of the sake of God is concerned.I feel offended.God should not be taken in vain.

Shannon, I have read the books and I can assure you it's not at all like that. Being fiction, the story tells that God was actually an angel that's really, really old, and he is trapped in a glass. The kids (Lyra and Will) open the box in an attempt to free him, thinking he's going to die if he stays in there, but he was supposed to stay in the glass so they end up killing him. And this only happens in the third book, The Amber Spyglass.
I can also tell you that this is the least controversial film of the three, and they have toned down the controversy, which will be present only in euphemism.
To me, it's still fiction, and a beautiful work of art, so I can't wait to go see it. I have read about catholic groups calling for a boycott, but in the end what all of the fans are seeing is that this is only drawing more attention to the movie.

that is perfectly fine, everyone is going to have a different opinion of the book. IMO the fact that they "kill Him" at all is terrible. Whether they kill him trying to free him or kill him to kill him it is all the same in my eyes and it is all a way for the author to mock God and to fictionally kill him. Also the fact that the controversy is in the third film is unrelated, it is still a series and all builds to the last... IMO
