Charities Win Big at CMT Awards
Charities Win Big at CMT Awards Back To Today's Country Music News
4/16/2008
Kasey Bell
Many Country Music artists walked away with buckles at Monday night’s CMT Music Awards, but the biggest winners were the charities.
CMT One Country, the network’s major charity network, donated $5,000 to the charity of choice of the winner in each category. An extra $5,000 will be donated to the charity of the winner of the coveted Video of the Year Award, which went to Taylor Swift for "Our Song".
The AARP Foundation Grandparenting Program proved to be the night’s big winner, garnering $15,000 from three-time winner Kellie Pickler. Meanwhile, Taylor Swift won another $10,000 for the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital for her two awards.
In all, CMT One Country will be donating $70,000 to the various charities. For a complete list of the winners’ charities, go to CMT : Be a One Country Volunteer : The Power of One Can Make a Difference in Your Community

Kellie is very involved with cahrity and I praise her for that. Carrie Underwood is also quite involved. It's a big thing with country singers, for some reason.

I think the added award of money donated to charities was a brilliant move on the part of CMT.

I bet the AARP Foundation Grandparenting Program is thrilled that Kellie has chosen them for her favorite charity!! Just think...$50,000 from 5th grader and $15,000 last night, that is $65,000 in less than a year!! I never knew this charity existed until Kellie chose it...and what a wonderful charity!! I love children, and it breaks my heart to think that one child in this world is unloved....so to help grandparents raise their grandchildren that otherwise would be wards of the state or foster children is absolutely wonderful!!! Way to go Kellie!!!

No doubt that Kellie has raised a lot of money and gained much recognition for this worthwhile charity.

Very well said, Carolyn. I believe this is one reason for Kellie's tremendous appeal to me, a grandmother also, like you.....she "speaks" to folks of all ages....not just to the "tweens", but to the fans from 7 to 77 (maybe I left someone out here, LOL). Her story is real, her emotions genuine and she consistently "steps up to the plate" for the less fortunate. She is an example to all of us, not just to "youngsters". I know her "Grandma Faye", her Angel, is looking down and smiling on this wonderful young woman.
