Miley Cyrus! Oh, and the CMT Awards

Is it too soon to give out music award trophies? Has the sting from the Grammys' Herbie Hancock-over-Kanye West upset worn off yet?

Perhaps a mood-lightener -- in the form of some music video awards -- are in order? After all, in the hierarchy of music awards, the ones honoring videos occupy a lower rung. So get ready for Monday's Country Music Television Awards, bringing us such nail-biting categories as "tearjerker video of the year."

We may have a CMT "tearjerker" winner here, in "Ready, Set, Don't Go." Billy Ray Cyrus doesn't look on the verge of bawling in the clip, but nostalgic father/daughter songs always do the trick. And when your daughter is an international superstar named Miley, this probably isn't going to be Kellie Pickler's year.

But dang if you don't tear up when Pickler sings of her mom, "I hear the weather is nice in California," and a slide guitar droops right through her broken dreams. But hats off to the CMTs, as such emotional narratives (just try and turn the video off before it ends) are missing from the Grammy Awards, where this year the only drama going into the show was in whether or not Amy Winehouse would turn up.

That's bull.. Kellie's video is more sentimental and more professional sounding than that trash.

That Cyrus song has to be the most over-ranked (up to #4) song of this past year. Frankly, I think it's a crummy song, but that's just my opinion.

Luckily the radio stations in my market didn't overplay it too badly, but the video was on CMT way too much. Taking that into consideration, I'd find an easy candidate for 'most annoying video of the year'. Hardly worth shedding a tear over, but it maybe could have induced a few chunks.

Guys the guy wasn't saying that Billy Ray's song was better or deserved the award he said that with Miley as his daughter and her huge fan base voting that he will probably recieve the award. But he said Kellie deserves it.

Barring a push by Milo fans who don't typically watch CMT, I might be a bit surprised if that Cyrus thing won that award. It seems as if the popularity of that video has waned a bit since they announced those two as co-hosts of the awards and it's been getting beaten thoroughly on Power Picks lately.

But of course the attention of them hosting could have brought more Milo fans to the CMT site who voted for them too. Sort of an unfair advantage in a way. Dang, I don't know.

I don't like the song or video and the one time I saw them perform it live together was on DWTS and I thought the girl sounded awful. The first thing that popped in my head when I saw Kellie was up against those two was the Disney channel fanbase of his kid. She is featured in the video as a baby, toddler, and so on. I mean and then to later find out they would be hosting the CMT's made me think it's a real longshot for Kellie. We'll see what happens.

Well, I happen to like Miley Cyrus and her Dad.....but only recently. Miley Cyrus appeals to a different fan base than Kellie's IMO....younger, "Tween"...did not realize how HUGE she is until today when her earnings were in the "Parade"...around 11M, I believe...more than Carrie or Taylor but then this girl has her own furniture line now, TV show, and the Disney Channel behind her....As for the CMT's....I don't really see her winning...sorry...just believe our Kelliegirl will win "hands down" unless, like some of you guys said, MILO Fans (?) tune into CMT and vote. Even though Miley was on Idol Gives Back, Kellie was actually "promoted" when she appeared, so really believe Kellie's appearance actually helped her more...We will see...sure know I voted "till my fingers dropped off".....LOL....

I think Kellie's fan base has a LOT bigger age range than Miley's. And I think Kellie has a way better shot at it than Miley does.

Maybe because of my age I do not care for Miley; she's cute enough and a dynamo on stage but I dont think she has a great voice at all and I don't personally care for her kind of music and all that head/hair throwing around which TS does also. I dont think she is a threat to kellie for any cmt awards and I will be shocked out of my mind if Kellie does not win one or all three!
