Our country music writer, Jack Leaver, was at the annual Country Radio Seminar last week. The convention is geared toward insiders in the radio world and the stars who want play on their stations.
Here's Jack's report:
Former Trick Pony singer Heidi Newfield is back and on her own with a solo album due out this year on Asylum/Curb Records. The spunky singer has a great new single entitled "Johnny and June," a love ballad ode to Johnny Cash and June Carter.
We spotted former "American Idol" contestant and country hunk Bucky Covington exchanging pleasantries with '90s country star Doug Stone outside the Renaissance Hotel, which is connected to the Nashville Convention Center.

The RCA Label Group boat trip is always a highlight of CRS and this year we were treated to several standout performances as we cruised down the Cumberland River Thursday evening. Many of the acts on the company's roster were on board and performed, including, Miranda Lambert, Sara Evans, Brad Paisley and Kellie Pickler. Former "American Idol" contestant Pickler used her two-song slot to showcase a new song, a powerful ballad entitled "I Just Want Somebody to Love Me," which she said was the first performance of the song.
Probably the most entertaining, and certainly the most spontaneous moment of the boat trip came as the last act, superstar Kenny Chesney, brought out several guests, including Evans, Paisley, Gretchen Wilson, Pat Green and company chairman Joe Galante, for a rousing finale cover of the Rolling Stones' "Honky Tonk Women."
