Snap judgment: Kellie Pickler's '... A Man's Mind'
Sep 24, 2007, 11:20 AM | by Michael Slezak
She may have finished behind Taylor Hicks, Katharine McPhee, and Paris Bennett during her sixth-place run on American Idol's super-competitive fifth season, but Kellie Pickler looks more and more like a winner with each track she releases from her debut disc, Small Town Girl.
Pickler's third single, "Things That Never Cross a Man's Mind," got a shout-out as a "Choice Cut" in the music section of this week's issue of EW, so I decided to give it a listen myself.
From the opening blast of guitars to that tinkling piano line, "... A Man's Mind" is contagious fun, with cheeky lyrics ("These curtains clash with the carpet/ The color scheme is a crime/ Things that never cross a man's mind") that actually had me laughing out loud before I'd finished my first Diet Dr. Pepper of the day (no small accomplishment).
So what if her ill-fated Idol rendition of "Unchained Melody" was as tuneful as test of the Emergency Broadcast System?
When it comes time to leave the confines of reality TV and make a mark on the Billboard charts, personality counts — and Pickler's got it coming out her pores.
But don't take my word for it. I challenge haters and fans alike to listen to the embedded version of "Things That Never Cross a Man's Mind" and then give a thumbs up (or down) in the comments section below.
Good review, except for the uncalled for, and fallacious, comment about her rendition of "Unchained Melody". I gave a thumbs up of course and left a comment.
Thanks for the post.

Thanks for the post.
That one line grated on me a bit, too, of course. But maybe the writer was just using that as a device to get the haters to actually listen before posting.
I found some other stuff he's written about her, and he always seemed to like her personality but never said a lot about her music. (He did refer to her "pleasingly twangy vocals" once.) So maybe he's just now catching on himself as to how good she is.
there is a video on utube that a big Kellie fan recorded at the Queen Creek concert last week. It is a great 10 min. video from entrance to encore. that is when she sings I.D. !
just search for kellie pickler- queen creek
She sounds awesome!!!!!!!!! I HAVE to go see her in concert sometime. Thanks soooo much for the link! It would be awesome if Kellie and Carrie toured together in the future.

That's me! It was a fantastic concert, I recorded as much I could, I was tripping over everyone's legs trying to get into the stage area, because I had to go to the bathroom, and then I heard everyone start cheering and I thought I was going to miss her! Thanks for the compliment!

Thank you! It was a great concert. She should do more small venues.
