I've received numerous e-mails and calls about Friday's column about the lack of female nominations in the Entertainer and Album of the Year categories in the CMA Awards for the second consecutive year. In addition, the Country Music Hall of Fame has not inducted a woman since 1999.
I've heard from artists on major and independent labels, including one female legend, as well as songwriters, label employees and publicists, and concerned readers who aren't in the industry.
Smyrna's Teri-Ann James writes, "I think it might make a point if all females on the artistic side of the business were to just continue whatever they are doing the night of the CMAs and let the CMA fend for itself. The CMA might take notice of how crucial women are to whatever success country music enjoys."
I don't know bout skipping them, might not be the wisest choice for some... well for new comers such as Kellie, and others.. I agree with article ,though, female artists have been snubbed and down played for years. They are, and have been very crucial component in the industry. It is the 21rst century and yet look at how they are still treated. { Treated for lack of better word} I mean, they have to work twice as hard as men, for air play ,, for anything. When they have just as much to offer. It like country music is stuck in the 50's , a time warp. Although yes, has come far since those days, but NOT far enough. Have to give props and thanks to artists like Reba Mc Entire, Dolly Parton, Loretta Lynn, ect.. as if not for them, kicking in the door and knocking it down, lord knows where we'd be today with women and country music. There were a few good years there, when the women were nominated and taking home the awards , doin fairly well. But it has seemed as though we / they are goin backwards. There many many, very talented women in country music, who deserve just as much admiration and respect as the men. If it weren't for the women in country music, it wouldn't be where it is today. They deserve to be acknowledged as well!!!
A big ol' thank you to the ladies of country music, for all they do!!!
