STANLEY COUNTY -- Kellie Pickler’s father remained in jail Friday afternoon after he was arrested on assault charges early Wednesday morning.
The Stanly County Sheriff’s Office said Clyde Raymond Pickler Jr., known to most as Bo, may have been involved in a domestic dispute when they responded to his home on Jay Road. They said Pickler, 42, allegedly became enraged and attacked a female acquaintance with a steak knife. Wednesday morning he appeared before a Stanly County judge for a bond hearing on charges of communication threats, assault on a female, and assault with a deadly weapon. Bond was set at $20,000 secured.
Pickler has served jail time for convictions in Stanly, Cabarrus, and Buncombe counties. He most recently served jail time in Florida for stabbing his neighbor in 2003. He was released in May of last year.
Still, many neighbors told WCNC reporter Alex Reed they are shocked to hear of this latest arrest. Hear more reaction from those who knew Bo Pickler tonight at 5 p.m.
Pickler became famous himself after his daughter, Kellie, became an 'American Idol' finalist. Her debut album “Small Town Girl” was released in October. She has been a guest host on ‘The View’ and a correspondent for the Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
Reports from friends reveal that the singer is aware of her father’s latest arrest.
Kellie returned to her hometown of Albemarle in May 2006 after her appearance on ‘American Idol’. She was welcomed home with a parade and afterwards, introduced a surprise guest to the crowd.
“I’m very glad, blessed, to have this person back in my life. I know a lot of people think that I would have a lot of resentment towards this person, which I don’t because I’ve forgiven him.
“You know, every day I get on my knees and I pray for God to forgive me for my sins and for what I’ve done wrong. Who am I to not forgive you for your sins, to forgive him for his sins? And I just I pray.
“Again I’ve prayed for a long time, that when this person came back to Albemarle that he would be given a second chance. We all make mistakes. We learn from them, we pray for God’s forgiveness and we move forward. Ladies and gentlemen I would like to bring up my dad.”
Clyde Pickler came up on the stage and the pair embraced. “Thank you baby,” he said.
Clyde was sentenced to prison in 2004 for stabbing a man in Florida. He was released from prison five days before her homecoming celebration.
“We might not have had the best relationship and a lot of people wonder why,” Kellie said. “How can she be so close with her dad? You know what, I don’t know. I know that I love him. I know that God has placed it upon my heart to forgive him because he forgives me every day. I love you and I am so glad to have you back in my life.”
