As Kellie's possible appearance on AI approaches I cringe at the thought of Ryan Seacrest having another crack at her. I went back and played that interview and finally hit on what went wrong. Ryan was trying to be the funny guy. He was trying to crack the jokes.
When interviewing Kellie, the interviewer needs to play the "straight guy" and let Kellie play off the normal conversation. It's all instinctive for her...she doesn't plan what comes out of her mouth...she's a natural and can take the most common things and make them funny.
I went back and reviewed her recent appearances on Ellen and Jimmy and watched these two master comedienes at work. They expertly let Kellie be Kellie and the result was....well, everyone saw it. Ellen and Jimmy will often have to be the source of jokes during their interviews because most of their their guests aren't capable of supplying the humor, even if they try, but they knew exactly how to handle Kellie to bring out her entertaining personality.
I just hope that Kellie will eventually learn how to turn that humor back at somebody who tries to upstage her, like Ryan did last year.
If you listen to her radio interviews, which I enjoy almost as much as listening to her sing, she is getting better and better at the come-back. It is so interesting to see her confidence grow and humor develop into a fine art. I hope she continues to make this part of her show and it may well become a major part of her performance....
I agree Ryan should have just left her alone Kellie is natural and noone needs to try to change that about her she is amazing just the way she is Kellie is #1

I think Kellie might have made the mistake of thinking Ryan would take the same role he takes with most of the singers when they're competing on AI.
Then he is somewhat protective, taking contestants' side against the judges, even though he's mostly incapable of matching wit with Simon.
But he was a jerk to her on his radio show as well, and she's so much more poised in interviews now. So, I think she will be ready for him and can handle him now.
I appreciate the fact that Kellie is so genuinely witty and real in her interviews. I don't think I've ever seen so many interviews with just one person in my life, and she's never boring. Ryan just needs to can it.
Are you guys "for sure" that Kellie will be on AI this year? That would be FANTASTIC.....wish she would sing, STG, "I ain't eatin no calamari"....right at Simon....PLUS she wrote the song and it would advertise her cd, not just one song.....
Yes Robert, Seacrest handled that intro badly, knowing, presumably, that she was about to sing a sad song. The director should have known too that it was the wrong time for any jokes. Kellie could have done an interview sometime earlier, well-separated from her song.
Despite all the distractions I Wonder single and album sales jumped way up after Kellie's AI6 performance.

It hasn't been confirmed yet and last year I think we didn't hear until about the week of, although I'm sure FOX and AI are interested in higher ratings and Kellie usually draws them. Plus they need to let her promote her album on TV again since the label doesn't promote it much. They should let her sing 2 or 3 songs like on Today Show. If she sings just 1 song I think DYKHMILY is the best song for AI's crossover audience and to show off her "powerful pipes" as the concert reviews say. STG would also be great.

And she could emphasize the part when she sings calamari, as it is an AI reference. I would also like "I'm on my way" as it has other AI references and I wanted it as an AI got the boot song. It is perfect for that in word and spirit.
