My Musings...
Yes I know there's been about 300 threads started and if this one gets merged into another one that's fine... I just couldn't really find a proper thread where my thoughts fit.
Anyway, we all know what happened yesterday. Needless to say I was shocked. I honestly thought it would be Paris. It's just strange to me that Kellie's fans saved her from the bottom 3 one week and then she got eliminated the next. That's very strange, considering I don't think we as a fanbase voted any less hard this week than last week. We can say the show is rigged, and I think it is to some extent, but I think more of the problem is that she lost support of casual fans, aka people that don't go on the internet, just watch the show and occasionally vote. Now let's be honest here (i'm going to be very honest in this thread, and I hope nobody gets upset) Kellie's last two performances were not very good. They were very much below her usual standard. I thought she'd get one more chance but I suppose not.
It's just amazing because she was predicted to be in the top 4. Entertainment Weekly gave her a 33% chance of WINNING, more than anyone except Chris. From that standpoint, this is a shocking elimination. But I think the forces and minds at Idol have been changed.
What I want everyone to realize is at the end of the day, this competition is not about who's the best singer - it's about who can make them the most money. Now don't hate me, but I never thought Kellie would win. I didn't even think she'd be final 2. And this was simply because unfortunately Kellie is a year too late. As different as Kellie is from Carrie Underwood, in the context of the comptition she's too similar. They already have a female country singer.. they from an economic standpoint don't want two artists who are going to compete for sales. This is why Chris Daughtry will win this year. Never before has a white male won the competition, and never a rocker. And Chris is a true hard rocker - Bo's not nearly as hard and Constantine was too theatric. Chris and Bo are very different, there won't be nearly as much "competition" as there would be between Carrie and Kellie.
I think the judging this week was very indicative of how the show is going to play out. Like others have said, Chris was pimped and his competition was slammed. Yes I noticed that. Yes it slightly irritates me, but you know what? The same exact thing happened last year. Everyone knew from day 1 that Carrie was going to win, and as someone who dislikes Carrie (sorry) this made me bitter the entire season. You might be bitter about this season because you don't like Chris, but there's no need to act like this didn't happen exactly the same way last year. Such is American Idol. They pick the winner, we pick the order in which the other contestants fall.
Kellie should have placed at least 4th. There's no doubt in my mind that she should have beat Paris and Elliott, and I personally think she should have beat Taylor. As for Chris and Katharine.. not so much, because I think those will be our final two, and I've thought that for a while. Tuesday night confirmed it in my mind. Yes they ripped Kath a new one but I thought it was reverse psychology.. trying to light a fire under the butts of Kath's fanbase. And it worked. It seems like Katharine is now wanted to be the last woman standing... perhaps she was from the beginning and Idol is just very sneaky.. perhaps they were downplaying her in favor of Kellie in order to keep Kellie in for a while because she makes for good TV (she does.. 80% of the personality on that show was voted off last night. the other 20% is divided between kath and taylor, with kath taking the lion's share).
There ARE positives to come out of this though folks.
- she has a TON of fans.. i mean seriously a ton. she will get a record deal with no problems. i think she might have scored better than finishing later and being 19 E's slave. plus who knows what doors might open for her? constantine got a friggin TV show. i can totally see acting or modeling in kellie's future.
- VFTW can take her off their goddamn site now. kthx.
- everyone who beat her is good. i don't think they all SHOULD have, but no scott savols beat her... she beat all of them.
She will survive. And as far as the issue of her not being able to compete in country music because of Carrie, that's just rediculous. That's like saying she can't compete because of LeAnn Rimes or Sara Evans or Faith Hill. Carrie's an artist. Kellie's an artist. They're not even close to the same sound or same person. Kellie is in no way shape or form trying to steal Carrie's thunder. Kellie putting out an album won't affect Carrie one bit.
We'll have to wait a bit longer for this album... but I promise we haven't seen the last of Kellie Pickler.
