Grammy Nominees to be announced on...
December 6th.
Just a bit more than two weeks ahead. It's really close, guys. I thought you should all know the date and now we can start sending positive thoughts and we'll hopefully see Kellie's name on the nominees for "Female Country Vocal Performance". Who knows, maybe even more, but I think that's the category she has the biggest chance, and I think her chances only increased with that ground-breaking performance at the CMA's.

I really hope she at LEAST gets nominated! She needs to get some awards, but I know there are some stars that for some reason, don't get a lot of awards but do great work anyway!
But a few of those glittery awards would be wonderful.

'I Wonder' will probably get a nod for Female Country Vocal performance, but I highly doubt that it will win.

Considering the underpromotion of Kellie's music sales and airplay, she will be fortunate just to get nominated. Unfortunately the odds are stacked against Kellie for winning any major award because sales and/or airplay numbers are a major factor in most major awards criteria and voting, so awards aren't just based on talent, songs, albums, and performances, they are also based on promotion and sales. This was the first year the AMAs were fan voted, however fans didn't get to choose the initial nominees and they were chosen largely based on sales and airplay. And with fan nominated or voted awards, it takes a lot of airplay to get enough fans familiar with your music, interested and voting for you. That's why Taylor Swift was nominated for country Favorite Female Artist and Kellie wasn't. Kellie is at least as talented and her album is at least as good so if the award were purely based on talent then Kellie should have been a final nominee. While I haven't seen sales or airplay specifically stated in Grammy criteria, I believe it takes higher sales and/or airplay to get the attention of the voters and get enough votes to win the awards. Kellie really needs top 5 airplay to stand a good chance of winning awards, and it's a shame I Wonder didn't make top 5 like it deserved.

I agree the CMA performance might have helped land some votes however apparently the Grammys voting deadline was October 22, 2007, before the performance GRAMMY.com - News I'm not sure if this date is correct though? It seems way too early since the nominations haven't even been announced yet.
Ok I just found this release from the last Grammys so the deadline for the 50th Grammys will probably be around Jan 10th 2008. So hopefully Kellie's CMA performance will help her chances.

Aw :/ Didn't know that. Well, let's hope.
And yeah, I really don't think sales matter in the Grammys, at all. We just have to take as an example what happened to the Dixie Chicks last year, which I thought was phenomenal, and it really surprised me.

Grammy's don't take into account airplay at all. That's how obscure acts like Imogen Heap get nominations. If you are successful on the charts, obviously that helps but its not a necessary criteria for being nomination or even winning (look at the Dixie chicks who were all but ignored by country radio and yet swept almost all the major awards). I think thats one of the things that separates the Grammy's from other major award shows.

I will always be pulling for Kellie to win awards. Dixie Chicks are actually a good example of sales mattering. They won Grammys for Taking the Long Way, which had huge sales. You can read about sales of the album here
Taking the Long Way - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
It went gold the first week of release and I believe it was 2x platinum before winning Grammys. Also, many people considered the Grammy voters to be making a bold political statement to country music with those votes - this was all over the news at the time. What you might be thinking of is this album got very little airplay. It's a rare example of high album sales without great (recent) airplay, however the Dixie Chicks had already established themselves with #1 airplay many years prior.

Sure artists can get nominated without high sales or airplay but usually one needs to be one of the highest in sales and/or airplay within their nominated catagory to actually win a major award. The Grammys might say they aren't based on sales or airplay, however I believe it takes higher sales and/or airplay to get the attention of enough voters and garner enough votes to win the major awards. And it usually takes a lot of airplay to generate a lot of sales because airplay is usually the #1 factor in sales.

Just to clarify my statement of Kellie needs top 5 airplay to have a good chance of winning awards, this doesn't mean it's a requirement, just that for MOST major awards it would really help and give Kellie a MUCH better chance of winning. If her album goes platinum even without top 5 airplay that would also help, although both would be better.
