33% of Filipinos in the Phillippines use a cell phone, which is about 27 million people.
And why doesn't everyone in the United States use a cell phone?
Probably because not everyone can afford the $30 to $40 a month it costs for decent cell phone service. In addition, to have "normal" cell phone service, one must have a decent credit rating to be able to qualify, unless you wish to put down a sizeable security deposit of several hundred dollars. Otherwise, they'll have to use prepaid cellular service which doesn't allow for any free nights-and-weekends or cheap-and-easy text messaging which would allow a person to make lots of calls or text messages cheaply so they could vote multiple times on American Idol.
Does your text messaging option on your cell phone service give unlimited text messages? Or do you get say, 30 text messages per month, and then charged per text after that? Usually, plans that include unlimited text messaging begin in the $50 or $60 per month range, meaning you'll be paying at least $600 per year. Quite a bit of money for much of the US, especially poor, starving college students and the half of the US population that makes less than $30,000 per year.
I know you were trying to make a point, but try to be more factually accurate in your statements.

A couple of questions - I thought you had to live in the US to vote. Secondly, from what I understand, they (AI & Co.) can detect "programs" such as this and are automatically eliminated (read the fine print).
And no, since I don't have Cingular, I can't text vote but even if I did, I wouldn't pay to vote. Not when the 866 numbers are toll free. That doesn't make sense.
Another thing - according to your calculations, you can send 7200 text messages in 2 hours. Why then did you only send 50?
