Thanks, Nid. Yes I did try to BS player.
The problem with that was I couldn't find a way to advance a frame at a time to get the exact frame I wanted. Even going rapid fire like you suggested gets the frame I want some of the time, but if the shot that you want is in only one or two frames it's a hit or miss.
Do know of a keyboard command that will do the frame advance? I have tried the arrows and they don't work.
Also, for some reason the resolution of the player seemed to me to be less than I was getting from Media Player Classic.

Hmmm, that's very strange, Robert, that you're having that problem. I, too, am running Win XP on a PC and Windows Movie Maker works great.

Thanks for letting me know, Fred. I'll play around with my config.sys and see if I can find something that is interfering.

An interface has too many methods to fire events from Also, Lindsay suggested I use PowerDVD which I do have on my computer, but that will only play a DVD and not an MPG file. Obviously, my regular DVD player will not work either, unless I burn the mpg file to a DVD then....oh, that's way too much trouble.
All I want is a simple screen cap from an mpg file. There has got to be a simply way to do that.
Suggestions?

Try VirtualDub, the best movie editor IMO

Hi Robert. What I do to get the frame I want is slow the video right down by pressing F6 (decreases 1%) or shift+F6 (decreases 10%) and you can get exactly the frame you want like that.
With regard to resolution, the cap is exactly the same as the resolution of the original video. So if another program gives you a bigger image, then it's resizing it and in my opinion, if you are going to resize something I would rather use another program where I have some say in the quality of the enlarged image.
Hope this helps.
