Annual June festival will feature country star Kellie Pickler

News You Can Use Organizers are making plans for the 2008 America's River Festival. The three-day annual party at the Port of Dubuque is scheduled for June 13-15. Perhaps the organizers have eschewed superstition -- the festival is expected to open on Friday the 13th. Dubuque's next America's River Festival should have a decidedly "American Idol" feel.
The city's annual family bash at the Port of Dubuque is expected to feature country star Kellie Pickler, booked to headline Friday, June 13, of the three-day festival.
Pickler, a bubbly blonde standout on Fox television's popular "American Idol" in 2006, has become a rising star on the country music circuit.
The beauty school dropout moved to Nashville, Tenn., released an album, and was nominated for a new female vocalist award at the Academy of Country Music Awards.
Her debut album "Small Town Girl" produced three singles on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Songs charts. The album's more notable songs include the smash hit "Red High Heels" and "I Wonder."
"She's really very much an up-and-coming artist in the country music world," said Keith Rahe, coordinator of the America's River Festival. "We're extremely happy to have her solidified for that Friday night."
Festival organizers have yet to ink the headliners for the remainder of the event's weekend run, but Rahe mentioned some pretty prominent names.
He confirmed the entertainment committee is pursing 1970s and '80s power rock band Foreigner, but nothing is "solidified" at this point.

any info on this year, are tickets on sale now? how much, where we get them.. i tried the links.. but one just takes to last years festival info..
others didn't give me what I needed...

Details on America's River Festival Tuesday
Organizers for the America's River Festival are expected to announce details of this year's riverfront bash at a media conference scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 15, at the Grand River Center.
The America's River Corp. will unveil a full schedule of events, including an announcement about the festival's "national musical entertainment" lineup.
This year's party at the port is expected to feature country star Kellie Pickler, booked to headline Friday, June 13, the first day of the three-day festival. The TH also has learned that country music's Little Big Town will perform from 9 to 10:30 p.m. Saturday, June 14, on the main stage.

'Idol' star Kellie Pickler to headline America's River Festival
American Idol finalist Kellie Pickler will headline the 2008 America's River Festival, organizers announced this morning.
Also scheduled to appear are country music acts Lady Antebellum and Little Big Town.
Pickler, a finalist on "American Idol" two years ago, is booked for Dubuque on Friday, June 13.
The announcement comes the morning after Pickler scored three major awards in the Country Music Television Music Awards, including Breakthrough Video of the Year for her top 10 single, "I Wonder." |
