NC State Fair - October 16 - Raleigh, NC

OK, this is going to be a quickie. There were a number of Kelliefans there so there will be more reports I am sure.

As mentioned in a post earlier today, the concert was sold out. 7500 or there abouts. It is interesting that in addition to the sections behind the stage that were not put up for sale, there were two sections at the very end of the arena that were vacant. According to the venue seating chart for concerts, these seats are never sold for concerts. Not sure why. I asked one of the staff and she said she thought that the acoustics were really bad at the end, and that is why they weren't sold. Regardless, the place was packed and although a bit sedate for most of the performance, really gave Kellie support at the end of her songs. It was actually kinda nice to be at a concert where people weren't hollering thoughout all the performances.

She did her usual 13 song set, except she replaced I'm On My Way with Best Days of Your Life, so, eight songs from her album (left out: IOMY, Wild Ponies, Girls Like Me), plus her four covers: 9 to 5, Stand By Your Man, Walking After Midnight, and Independence Day (as the encore).

She almost didn't do an encore. The crowd went dead and started to file out. I was really pissed. Finally, they started flashing the lights and the crowd picked up a little and she came back. A lot of the people there haven't been to a lot of concerts.

Her voice was great, she looked stunning in a black top and her "painted on jeans". She made some jokes about how tight they were.

The acoustics were better than I expected in such an old arena. I could actually hear all the words (it helped that there was no screaming and hollering during the singing).

That's it for me. I didn't get any good pictures (too far) and I will let you know about the videos I took (against regulation). I'm not sure they are going to turn out so hot so I am going to wait and see what others have done.

Overall a fantastic performance. On the bus going back to my car, a number of people on the bus started talking among each other (including me) about how great she was. Several expressed great surprise at what a polished performer she was. That was the first performance for those on the bus except for me. Everyone loved her!!!! Several said they were going to get her album right away.

This was the concert bargain of the year at $5 (plus $7 fair admission).

Last night was a great show, when I am no longer exhausted (3 concerts 3 days in a row is killing me) I'll get my review up.

I got to the arena early and walked around on the east side where her bus was parked hopefully to get a glimpse of her, a lot of people had gathered around in hopes she might come over to the fence. She was in the arena at that time practicing a few of the numbers, I guess to get warmed up. I saw Summer Miller go by, guess she was back stage. When she did appear, she went straight to the bus and the security guard got in the way and blocked any picture taking. When they finally opened the doors at 6:30, went to my seats in the sweet potato section, couldn't have asked for better seats. Was seated on an outside row looking right straight at the her microphone not more than 30 ft. away. When the announcer anounced her name and the lights grew dem, everybody went into an uproar, nothing happened, everyone was looking around to see if she was going to sneak in through the crowd. Finally the band came out and the show started. Can't remember which song she did first, took lots of pictures, the best one of all is the one I'm using as an avatar at the moment. Its hard to take a lot of pictures at these concerts so they want all look a like, so proud of her, she has come a long way since idol. She sat down on the stage and talked to the crowd, saying that she really appreciated all the support she has received not only from Stanly county, but by all her fans, that they were here extended family with a tear in her eye and mine too along with a few others. Everybody was shouting that they loved her from the front. Fantastic concert to say the least. This is my second one and they get better everytime she does one. When I get the pictures together in some order I will post them.

Why didn't I go! I live 5 minutes away from the Dorten Arena!!! Oh well I got to see Sara Evans there this week so I guess 2 shows would have been to much???
