Well, first of all, it was so awesome. I was had SOO much fun, it was the best night ever! I was so sorry I wasn't able to get more pictures and videos, I was ashamed gemiz wasn't there, he would have loved it and gotten awesome audio, and loads of you guys deserved it. Well here's my review, don't be surprised if I have to retype it, I just got home and it's midnight. I hope you like it.
OH MY GOSH! I just got back from the Kellie Pickler Queen Creek, Arizona concert. An hour long drive, out in the middle of nowhere, but it was worth it!
Well, first of all, on September 14th, the day before the concert, we sped to Saba’s Western Store to get me a KMLE-flage t-shirt. I love the shirt, loads!
The concert began at 7:30, and so we left at 5:00, as we live an hour away. I was listening to my iPod, so excited, decked out in my KMLE-flage, my digital camera close by, my posters in the backseat, and a Sharpie in my pocket with my wallet.
We got to Queen Creek around 6:20, and located the Queen Creek Performing Arts Center. I was excited; it was a small venue, and a small crowd. We drove around looking for food, but couldn’t find any restaurants, so we got some food at Circle K.
When we walked into the venue, they didn’t let anyone in yet, and KMLE was outside playing music. I looked at the merchandise table, they didn’t have lots of merchandise, less then the Brad Paisley concert, and so I didn’t get anything. I was going to buy a t-shirt after the concert, but when I went to get one, they closed the table, but I can get one online! We waited outside, it was really nice outside, and I got a free CD for wearing my KMLE-flage! We got a country compilation, but they had the new Reba Duets CD, and an independent, up and coming country band’s CD. Soon, they let everyone in, and we went all the way down to row E, like four rows from the stage! We were so close! No doubt about Kellie seeing my signs. The people next to us all loved my signs and thought they were cute, especially the one where I photoshopped me next to Kellie. We all talked with our “neighbors” about Kellie, and they soon learned I knew almost everything about her!
After about twenty minutes, the coordinator came on and announced Kellie’s opening act! I didn’t know she had one, but this band doesn’t travel with her. It was called Nathan Dean, and they performed three cover songs, and about two original songs. They were really good, and were big Arizona Kellie fans, that’s how they got the gig. They announced they were going to sign autographs and take pictures, but we just stayed there waiting for Kellie. Well, after a few minutes, my mom wanted a water, and so I hurried to go get her one. I bought the water, and saw the lead singer was still signing. I was bummed because I left my camera in the auditorium, and didn’t know if I’d have enough time to get it and take a picture and come back. So I ran into the men’s room, got a paper towel, and the lead singer was happy to sign my paper towel! While he was signing, the crowd started cheering, and I went back into the auditorium, and the lights were all off, so I had trouble getting back to my seat.
My mom told me everyone was saying, “Oh my gosh, Carson’s not here! He’s going to miss her! He’s such a big fan!”
Kellie opened up the show with “Gotta Keep Moving”, and you can’t believe this, but all the kids ran up to the stage, so they told me I should. So with my signs, I ran up to the stage, and got a whole bunch of pictures and videos of Kellie singing! Well, after “Gotta Keep Moving”, she sang “One of the Guys”! It was so cool because not only did she perform it great, she pointed to me when singing, “Sometimes it’s fun to be one of the guys!” I was so excited. Kellie then sang “Thing That Never Cross a Man’s Mind”, introducing it by saying to listen to the lyrics, and tell her if she was right, she knew she was right, because she was a woman! Then she sang the whole song, flawlessly. I was ecstatic and shaking while taking pictures, I was so close to her, right up by the stage! I also held up my Photoshopped sign, which she pointed to and smiled.
I was so happy when Kellie introduced her next song, a song she helped write called “My Angel”, then Kellie talked about how her grandmother was still there with her, and is her idol, grandmother and mother. During the song, Kellie would close her eyes, and feel the air, like her grandma was there, and it was sweet and magical to me, having lost my dad, plus she did a great song on the song, just like the CD, but she sounds different and maybe even better live. Kellie then introduced “I’m On My Way”, by saying it was written by a good friend of hers, Ashley Monroe. She said Ashley is an up and coming artist, and if we didn’t get her album, we’d be missing out. She also said “I’m On My Way” was her ‘survivor song’. She sang the song perfectly it was really inspiring. I do not remember the whole set list’s order, but I believe next she sang “Walkin’ After Midnight”. Everyone sang word-by-word, and I was pleased to hear her sing it, she was really awesome covering Patsy Cline!
“Didn’t You Know How Much I Loved You” was Kellie’s next song, she said it was about heartbreakers, and said, “There’s no heartbreakers in the crowd, yeah?” and this girl in front of me pointed to her friend. I never really knew how good this song was until Kellie sang it live. So up at the stage, Kellie next sang “Small Town Girl”, a wonderful, wonderful song, everyone laughed at the “Gimme a cheeseburger/I ain’t eat no calamari!” and I’m glad Kellie performed it.
“This is a song for the guys now,” Kellie said, before she sang Tammy Wynette’s “Stand By Your Man”. This is when I went up to our seats to get my permanent marker. I had left it at our seats after hurrying back from getting the opening act’s autograph. While at my seat, I heard Kellie say, “Ya like Dolly, yeah?” and “9 to 5” started, I loved Kellie’s cover, and so I recorded and took some pictures at our seats, then hurried back to the front of the stage where all the kids were. There were loads of people up there getting close ups and videos, I hope loads end up on Youtube.
Kellie’s guitarist then brought down a red stool chair, it was really cool looking, and Kellie then sat on it, and I knew what was coming: “I Wonder”. Kellie talked a bit about Dolly, and then started talking about her mom, and their relationship: there was none. Kellie started in on “I Wonder”, the whole crowd singing along with her, and she barely cried, she told us before the song it was like therapy. In between “I Wonder” and Kellie’s next song, Kellie was talking, and these kind of obnoxious guys gave her a note that said some things like she was hot, and she was “theirs”. Kellie laughed and turned it over. She read, “You are mine. 480-oops. Your mama wouldn’t like me to say that.” And everyone laughed. I thought it was a good time, and held up my Photoshopped sign, with my permanent marker. Sure enough, Kellie stopped right by me, and autographed, laughing and nodding and LOOKING RIGHT AT ME! I was all shaky when she started to sing “Red High Heels”, her hit. Kellie nailed the song, and at the end, took off her red high heel, and held it up. It was so cool. Kellie left the stage, thanking everybody, and I was happy to have gotten her autograph so close to the end of the show, I didn’t know it would end so soon. Kellie got called on for an encore, and Kellie delivered with “Independence Day”. After the concert, so excited, we went to the V.I.P after party. Unfortunately, Kellie had a concert then next day in New Mexico, and was going to rest her voice, people guessed, so her band came out. There was Chic-fil-a, and I was so happy, we were really hungry!
Even though I didn’t actually meet Kellie, I was the only one who had a sign, and the only one whose she signed. The night was magical, like when I went up stage, Kellie gave me her autograph, and she touched my hand three times! All I can say is, never doubt the power of Pickler.
