Please Stop Laughing At Me
I just finished reading this book the other night and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT. For any parent, educator, medical profession, or basically anyone who was ever the victim of School Bullying like I was then the book " Please Stop Laughing At Me," is a must read. I KNOW what it feels like to be shunned because your different and it hurts. But I was never physically abused the way this girl was in broad daylight by people who were once her friends. And the people who are supposed to help, her teachers, her doctors...and even the kids not actively involved in the beatings but just stood there and watched doing nothing... they all told her it was just a " Normal," part of growing up and that she had to be the bigger person and turn the other cheek. At one point her partents even belived them and thought she was bringing it on herself, wich only made things worse for someone who already felt like an outcast. And when she did stand up for herself and got the football team suspended then she was even more of a target. These things are both horrifying and enlightening and it may save a childs life. If you have a child in your life in one capacity or another I would recommend reading this book. It REALLY opens your eyes to the seriouslness of School Bullying. Believe me, even someone who's been through it herself, was SHOCKED at how much worse I could have had it. Completely horrendous things in this world done by fellow human beings just so they can fit in. SO sad.
