This is from an L.A. Times gossip blog. It's only as reliable as the unnamed "source."

My own guess is they're just blowing this audience survey, if it really exists, out of proportion.

But since everyone here likes to debate about Idol, here it is. ...

Is 'American Idol' looking to eliminate Ryan Seacrest?

Could dumping Ryan Seacrest help "American Idol" saggy ratings?

That's what the folks at Fox may be wondering, a source close to the show told the Scoop this week.

Seems studio-sponsored audience surveys are also asking questions about Seacrest and his interaction between the contestants and the judges.

While all of the main players were included in the question, “How important are each of the following people to your overall enjoyment of ‘American Idol’?” the survey also asks participants to weigh in on two extra statements: “I like the interaction between Ryan and the contestants” and “I like the interaction between the judges and Ryan.”

Hmmm. Wonder what the answers were?

Is this why Ryan has been so busy off "AI," hosting the Super Bowl pre-game show, the 2007 Emmys, covering the 2008 Oscar red carpet for E!, picking up a reality TV award at the 2008 Kids' Choice Awards show as well as producing Denise Richard's new reality series?

Just saying. Maybe that's why the hardest-working man in show business has been working extra hard lately.

Honestly I don't think FOX would get rid of Ryan unless he wanted to leave. Idol's problems has nothing to do with Ryan. Their ratings have been declining for other reasons (I think we all know what they are).

1. There's only one Kellie Pickler.

2. The show is no longer fresh after seven years.

3. The voting system disenfranchises anyone who isn't willing to dial or text for two to four hours a week.

4. Too much emphasis on bad auditions.

Mike you are correct. I also think that the manipulation that the viewers get from the judges/producers, lack of very interesting contestants, and the theme nights (which I think have been terrible this time around) are also other reasons Idol is not ''Must Watch TV'' anymore. They claim this is the best season ever but the one that was the best overall was Season 5 in my opinion. Say what you want about Kellie or Katharine or Taylor or Elliott Or Chris but at least they were interesting contestants who all had different personalities on a reality show.

He's starting to be the new Simom IMO. lol.

I think people listen to Simon too much instead of making up their own mind who's good and who's not. lol. And no matter how many times they say its based on that performance its not. Its a popularity contest and if you're popular and mess up, you'll slide by without evfen making it to the bottom. If you're not, you're either going to end up in the bottom or be eliminated. I have issues with that because I think EVERYONE should be voted on the same merit, and I just don't think they have been.

I agree that season 5 was the best season. You could pretty much turn on the TV and find someone you liked because they were all so versatile. Last season there was a few. I liked Baylie Brown, then I liked Alaina, Then Haley and Then Jordin. The rest of them I wasn't really interested in though i will admit that Phil has gotten alot better since leaving American Idol... Just like Bucky Did. lol. And this season I've had three favoriates since the beginning... Kristy, Brooke and Michael. And now they're all gone so I find myself looking at the remaining four and saying " Who cares?" lol. This season started out with promise but ended on a whimper. But that's me. lol.

I don't see Ryan going anytime soon but i do think the show is getting boring and needs a little something to make it fresher!

Mark McGrath should be the new host, he's much more cooler than Ryan lol
