Why No Country Singers This Year?
I wonder why they didn't have A SINGLE country singer that got through this year? Does this seem strange to anyone else?
Plus, there is only one singer who does any rock at all, and that's Gina.
What are your thoughts about this?

I did put in basically the same post over at Carrie Fans but wanted to see what people here think.
I was very surprised at many of the responses over at Carrie Fans.

I think that they wanted to change the direction this year and make sure that a pop artist wins over a country/rock singer.

I think they have little talent this year...Baylie Brown would have made it had she not have forgotten her words..

Out of the HUGE number of people who tried out, there couldn't possibly only have been one good country singer!
I'm disappointed at the way this was manipulated. Plus, with so little variety this year, I think it will be one of the most boring seasons ever.

I agree and the American Idol concert series probably won't do as well as last years. Last years was the biggest yet and even extended the tour.
Season 5 had everything from a country, rock and pop stars.

It's been manipulated every single year lol. Every single year they know what they're looking for and go into it that way.
I'm surprised that there are NO country singers either. They obviously don't want that this year though for whatever reason... I'm surprised they're returning to R&B because their two R&B winners are the least successful. Their country folks have been very successful. I can't imagine why they wouldn't try to go for a pop-rock sound, especially after the success Chris has had, and the success Kelly had with a similar sound.
I think Blake could be successful due to his originality and his looks.. other than that I dunno if I could see anyone else off this season being a huge hit, despite vocal talent. Idol has this thing where they like to take like the underdog (aka Taylor) and hope they can make that person mainstream.. I've come to find that in today's music industry that's pretty hopeless.. you have to have some sort of personality and appeal other than just a good singing voice. And you have to play the game of putting out the stuff your label wants you to for at least two records, even if it's not completely your style... John Mayer did that.. he's not particularly fond of "Your Body is a Wonderland" which won him a Grammy, but he grinned and bore it... his latest album is completely him.. he wrote and co-produced the entire thing (except for Bold As Love which is a Hendrix cover). Mandy Moore is the same way... she's done what her label wanted her to do and she's said her next album is going to be completely different... she asked her label to drop her and she started her own.
Wow so that was a tanget.. anyway, I haven't ENTIRELY written off this season yet, because I do love me some Blake, but it ain't no season 5... that's for sure.

I agree with what you said Lauren! One hundred percent.
So strange that they had a winning game plan last year with so many different styles to choose from, and so they just turned around and limited it so much it's BORING!

I agree with ya. I wish that they would give us different styles of music and let the people decide what they want.

Haley is a country singer. She's experimenting at the moment. She can sing anything but will excel in a country genre.
Gina is not a rocker. She wasn't a rocker last year that's why she went home. She's changed her tune and gone more of a pop route with a dose of rock but not quite full bore pop/rock. She'll be good because the new style fits her much better.
Leslie is the rocker Gina tried to be last year. Unfortunately, if they can't picks songs early that lets them ply up their strengths we'll never know this.
The divas are the divas and as long as they have ballads to sing they kick butt, what matters is when they have to change. Can you see any of them singing Queen or Bon Jovi? One or two yes.
The guys.. The guys simply haven't a snowballs chance this year. End of story.

i don't think after just one week we can conclude that the guys are completely hopeless. Things change. Doesn't mean the girls will get WORSE but I do think the guys will get better. I think they were terrified since they were first... I would be too.

i find it very strange that their aren't any country singers. its a bit hard to believe that after those hundreds of thousands of people that there wasn't one good country singer. can't people see that kellie and carrie are some of the most successful ones to come off of idol. they are doing so well! idol is a bit strange for me this year. i don't really have a favorite person to pull for. i haven't voted once. for kellie, i voted my fingers off and for carrie as well! i have been huge fans of theirs since i saw their auditions! idol is my favorite show and i always vote but i just don't feel like any of them are that good. no one really has that good of a personality or is funny like kellie. they all seem a bit boring to me. hopefully someone will emerge from this group and do well. does anyone have any favorites or like any of them as much as y'all love kellie?
