Country artists frequently talk about giving back to the community, and numerous stars are in benefit mode in the coming weeks, including Collin Raye, Reba McEntire, Kellie Pickler, Chuck Wicks and Taylor Swift.
Chuck is the first star up for charity, appearing Tuesday, April 1, at Nashville's Cabana restaurant during Karaoke For A Cure, an event that features numerous members of the Tennessee Titans football team. The evening, which raises money for lymphoma and leukemia research, will be hosted by GAC's own Storme Warren (We're officially daring Storme to sing "Stand By Your Man" — it's for a good cause!).
Collin, Reba and Faith Hill join John Mellencamp, Dionne Warwick and others April 4-5 for Muhammad Ali's Celebrity Fight Night XIV in Phoenix. The event benefits the Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center, and it's a major stop on the celebrity circuit. In years past, a single seat at Fight Night has cost — gulp! — $5,000. And the auction often has some outrageously generous results: For example, two separate donors each bid $250,000 in 2006 to have dinner with Reba at her home in Beverly Hills.
Also on tap May 17 is the second annual Party For A Cause in Las Vegas, sponsored by the Academy of Country Music. The roster of talent includes Taylor Swift, Kellie Pickler, Jack Ingram, Luke Bryan, Lady Antebellum, Jake Owen, Carolina Rain and "Stupid Boy" songwriter Sarah Buxton. All proceeds are earmarked for the ACM's Charitable Fund. The Academy presents its 43rd annual awards the following night.
