The fervor for American Idol hasn't cooled since the fifth season of the reality talent show ended in May. The show, which averaged about 30 million viewers twice a week this spring, is selling out arenas this summer.
American Idols Live, which features the final 10 contestants including winner Taylor Hicks and runner-up Katharine McPhee, will have played to capacity crowds (or nearly so) at every stop on the 60-city tour which ends Sept. 24 in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. It is the longest and most successful Idol tour ever. Through Aug. 2, the tour had raked in $14.6 million and had been seen by more than 265,000 fans, Billboard figures show.
"People let them into their living rooms for 12 weeks, and they've devoted a lot of time into American Idol," says Debra Rathwell of tour promoter AEG Live. "When you go to a show, you see families with kids and sometimes grandma...........
